b. Yuma, Arizona, 1976
lives and works San Francisco, California

The abstract figuration found inherent in letterforms has always been part of David’s visual work. Calligraphy, and later sign painting, [his primary occupation for the last decade] has informed how he comes to task and how the world around him becomes a source of inspiration. In the commodified, over-advertised information time we are experiencing, it is becoming increasingly important to look closer at things just below the surface and highlight that which is not so obvious. This body of work also emphasizes David’s love for abstract painting and its constant reflection of the lived-in real world redefined through the sense field, and interpreted in new and interesting ways. David’s work, now on view at Buddy, highlights a selection of paintings birthed from his education and accumulation of experience translated into his own dynamic language.
